Editorial
On January 1, 2003, Bruce Montague was one of 10 individuals standing on
Ottawa's Parliament Hill demanding he be arrested for violating the
Firearms Act.
Since that time Montague and others have publicly and consistently
demonstrated against the Firearms Act. The government has steadfastly
ignored their demands to be charged for publicly violating that Act.
The absurdity of an "investigation" and "search" of his home is beyond
description. Bruce Montague would have welcomed the "inspectors" into his
home and gunsmithing business at any time. He would have happily showed
them where each unregistered and unlicensed firearm lay.
This prosecution (persecution, if you prefer) proves only one thing. The
government does NOT like looking bad. Or being made to look bad. So they
have to prove a point. They toss Bruce in jail, arrest and threaten his
wife, then spend 36 hours searching the Montague family home.
Bruce Montague is hardly a "flight risk", yet he sits in a jail cell
awaiting a bail hearing despite the fact his only "crime" is one Ottawa
manufactured.
No, Bruce Montague sits in jail because of his political beliefs. The
government is doing its utmost to "silence dissent" on its fatally flawed
Firearms Act. We good citizens of this nation cannot allow this to
continue.
Amazingly, the Canadian government publicly and vehemently decries it when
other nations treating their citizens in this manner.
Apparently, the Canadian Government's hypocrisy knows no bounds.
