This Case Epilogue written February 1, 2017 is intended to provide context to this web site as it documents a Canadian constitutional challenge spanning from 2004 to 2016. Bruce Montague determined to expose the constitutional violations in the Canadian Firearms Act. After being charged, mounting a constitutional challenge and appealing to the Supreme Court of Canada, Montague's case was dismissed without reasons. With Bruce in jail, the Montagues then faced an another twist of injustice -- the confiscation of their home and property by the Ontario government. The Montagues fought the civil forfeiture of their home for years until, in the summer of 2016, the Canadian Constitution Foundation was instrumental in negotiating with the Ontario Civil Forfeiture department to drop the lien against the Montague home. The Canadian Constitution Foundation deserves our support as they continue to fight other cases of injustice around the country. YOU COULD BE NEXT! Canada is undergoing a quiet revolution and your fundamental rights and freedoms are at stake!

Mar20: Conservative Party Convention

News Archive Index

Dear supporters:

I've got some very good news for the firearms community.

I just got back from the Conservative Party's Policy convention in Montreal. There were at least seven of us at the convention that worked tirelessly to have the word "licence" removed from the policy statement of the Conservative Party, with regards to what to replace our current legislation with once the Firearms Act gets repealed.

I have included the original wording and the new amended wording at the end of this e-mail.

There was overwhelming support of this amendment. It felt good to make this small step in the right direction of how our laws should operate.

The people responsible for making this important shift in policy a reality were:

  • Dave Hammond (he wrote the amendment and made the motion to have it accepted)
  • Joe Gingrich (CUFOA member from Nipawin Saskatchewan - addressed the crowd in favour of this amendment)
  • Lawrence Kong (from Windsor Ontario)
  • Dan Baron (from Dryden Ontario)
  • Two fine gentlemen from Alberta. I can't for the life of me remember their names, but they were very much on side with this needed change. The one gentleman made a very good address to the crowd of 2500 delegates in favour of voting for this amendment. This isn't an easy thing for most people to do, but he did an outstanding job. I wish I could give him proper credit by publishing his name here.

All these gentlemen deserve credit for a job well done at this convention. They were all working selflessly for the benefit of all Canadians, including firearms owners.

This was quite an experience for me to be active in our democracy in such a way. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in helping to make Canada a better place. It was a very tiring and exhausting, but worth it.

Yours in Liberty,

Bruce.

It is recommended that the current Clauses 69 and 70 be replaced with the following: "A Conservative government will repeal Canada's costly gun registry legislation and work with the provinces on cost-effective gun control programs designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals while respecting the rights of law-abiding Canadians to own and use firearms responsibly. Measures will include: mandatory minimum sentences for the criminal use of firearms; strict monitoring of high-risk individuals; crackdown on the smuggling; safe storage laws; firearms safety training; a licensing system for all those wishing to acquire and use firearms legally; and putting more law enforcement officers on our streets."
